A quiet week for us but that does not mean we’ve been idle or twiddling our thumbs, while looking for something to occupy us. It’s all been pretty routine stuff apart from driving into Cromer where we took the opportunity to take a look at the recently opened B&M store. We’ve only been to one of their shops, this was in Norwich some years ago, while we were waiting for our car to go through its first service. In view of this, we weren’t sure what to expect. What we didn’t imagine was the number of aisles containing food and general household goods. The store was very quiet with only a few customers but as it was not long after nine thirty, I guess it would be busier later on in the day. We bought a few items and outside in the car park we both agreed, there was little to interest us but at least we now know what the store has to offer.
With good numbers of greengages on our tree and too many for us to eat fresh, I considered whether I should bottle some to enjoy over the coming winter. However, nearly all of the first fruits to ripen had a tiny hole in the skin and contained a little red maggot. I was glad I broke open those first fruits; you really did not want to bite into one or pop it straight into your mouth. A couple of weeks on and the ripe fruits are now sound with no holes but no way am I going to bite into them…….just in case!
This week, both the paths down to the beach have had sections of red plastic barricades fixed against the existing posts and rails. No idea why or whether the plan is, to replace or repair these sections. The photo below shows some of the barriers on the zigzag path; there are more on the steeper west path.
