The Strand Club

The club was founded by a few local ladies in January 1996, who identified the need for an informal club socialising in the afternoon.

Meetings

The club has remained a small, friendly group, meeting at 2 p.m.in The Barn, in Overstrand's White Horse public house, on the second Wednesday of every month except August.  This means we can make use of their entertainments and alcohol licences as and when we need to.  We now encourage men to join our club and actively try to choose items on each year’s programme which we hope they will enjoy.  Reports covering the monthly meetings can be accessed by clicking here on Reports.

Activities

We choose a different local charity each year to support.  In 2020 it was NARS (Norfolk Accident Rescue Service) who we raised in excess of £1,000 for. In 2021 it was 'Wild Touch', a local wild animal rescue and rehabilitation establishment from Ridlington, for whom we again raised over £1,000 despite no actual meetings. This year, 2022 our chosen charity is 'Hedgehog Haven' a small home-run haven for sick and permanently disabled hedgehogs based in North Walsham.  We hold a table-top sale/coffee morning for the charity in August when we have no meeting.

Every year, usually in June, we enjoy a day's outing, never too far away, and in April our full programme is posted on the Overstrand village notice board.  Visitors are always welcome.

Our year is finished off with a super Christmas party, and the next one started off with a new years' meal in a fairly local Restaurant.

The remaining months we are 'at home' listening to a variety of interesting speakers or enjoying a good chat over our spring lunch or later in the year a delicious ploughman's.

Subscription Costs

The annual subscription is £10 - excellent value - payable in March at our AGM.  Members then pay £2 (non-members £3) at the door each month which covers refreshments.  Raffle tickets are available for purchase throughout the meeting.
