I’ve titled this blog ‘Changes’, not just because this is the third time I’ve changed this blog!

Eighteen years ago, saw a big change in our lives.  We drove up from Bucks to Cromer where we picked up the keys to our new home.  This change was brought about by changes in our workplace, resulting in us giving up work, along with changes in the area where we lived, which we did not embrace.  We could have moved to Greece or split our year between the UK and Greece.  However, we’d seen changes in the country, partly the result of Greece joining the EU.  It was no longer the same place we first visited in 1997.

Why the move to Overstrand?  We’d been visiting the Cromer area since our sons were five and eight years old.  We loved the area so this was the reason we chose to move here and not escape to some other part of the country.  Eighteen years on, how does it feel today?  In some ways it feels like only the other week, when we collected the keys, and in others, as though we’ve lived in the village for much, much longer.

But what about changes?  Yes, there’s been a number.  Sadly, over the years we’ve seen, a number of born and bred village characters who have passed away.  For the most part, they’ve taken with them, memories of past years.  Some of the changes, we dislike but none have affected how we live; we are able to ignore them, although sometimes I do have a gripe, here in my blogs!   Overstrand has remained a (mainly) quiet and friendly village, with a unique character.  As a result, many aspire to moving here, especially those in their advancing years who want to live away from the hubbub that comes with town and city life.

Well, that’s it for today…..I’m not going to change this blog again!  I’ll leave you with a couple of photos, taken on Saturday morning, covering the continuing repair works to the sea wall.  At risk of sounding sarcastic, this is a welcome change to have the District Council protecting the village.
