It’s been fairly quiet here in Overstrand, during the half-term school holidays. It was however, different in Cromer on Wednesday, when I went to the hairdressers, as well as a short visit to Sheringham on Thursday, to collect my glasses from the opticians. Both towns were busy and driving back through Cromer on Thursday, quite a number of people seemed to be oblivious of passing vehicles, stepping off pavements and walking across the road, rather than heading to the crossing. Christmas goods were very much in evidence in a number of shops. While in Cromer, I took the opportunity to buy our family Christmas cards, plus others to see us through until the end of the year.
I see from the draft minutes for the Parish Council’s October meeting, they will be applying for a grant from the District Council to cover the cost of a feasibility study, into the possibility of linking the pedestrian route from Clifton Way to the High Street. We can remember, a number of years ago, when a bridge across this area was proposed but discounted by those on the Parish Council, at the time. A link would be most welcome by those living at the east end of the village, providing a short cut to the High Street enabling a quicker and easier access to the Sea Marge, White Horse, Overstrand Stores and the Conservative Club etc.
I also read, at the end of the draft minutes, in District Councillor Angie Fitch-Tillet’s report, ‘A budget of £1.035M was agreed for the Overstrand Coast Protection Scheme……’ This is a considerable sum and a positive move on the part of the District Council’s to repair and protect the sea wall.
Work has continued, clearing the Japanese knotweed, with the promenade now clear and a section of the cliff material scraped off. Despite this, the promenade remains closed. We walked along the beach this morning, where I was able to take a photo (see below) of the cleared area up on the cliff.
