Monday 13th July 2026 - Banned, Camping Field, Rockstock and Village Fair

Anglian Water have imposed a ban on the use of hose pipes; this commenced at 1 a.m. on Saturday.  The warm weather and breezes have been drying out the ground, so daily watering (either using a hose or watering can) has been a must for those who grow vegetables and low rooting plants.  Since Saturday we’ve seen a drop in temperature and a decreased appearance of the sun.  This has, to a certain extent, reduced the amount of water needed for our garden.  Only one of our water butts has any water left in it – this is being kept to top up our pond – but it has not proven a problem to fill cans from a tap to keep our plants alive. 

The camping field, off Beach Close, has been on the market for some time.  Initially as possibly using the land as a business/development venture and currently coming up for auction on 29^th July with a guide price of £80-100k. This has probably been one of the worst land investments Beeston Regis Group have made.  For a few years, used as a campsite, under special licence from Natural England, we quite often saw tents flattened by the offshore winds.  After seeing parents taking their children to the public toilets on the adjacent car park, we could only assume the facilities weren’t exactly kept up to a good standard.  It did however, provide wonderful sunset views.  Anyone considering buying the land would need to do some serious research into restrictions and erosion as well as considering, despite the notices on the gate; there is a public right of way across the field. 

Since my last blog, we’ve seen no further activity at the east end of the promenade.  The sheet piles, remain stacked above the promenade.  We’ll soon be seeing activity, in the village, of a different sort when marquees are erected on the sports field ready for Rockstock this coming Saturday.  Ahead of this, on Friday evening, villager Adi has issued an open invitation to his 60^th Birthday celebration on the Sports Field.  Details can be found on one of the many posters in the village.  The organisers of Rockstock have announced the line-up of performers along with the times they will be on the stage – details feature below as today’s photo.  The following weekend (Sunday 26^th) sees the annual Village Fair which will be utilising the Sports Clubs marquees for this event. Fair organisers, Overstrand Together, are in need of volunteers to help on Friday, Saturday and Sunday as well as people to run the games during the Fair.  Anyone interested in helping can message Overstrand Together via their Facebook page.
