Friday 17th July 2026 – Ill-Founded and Lost for Words

We walked along the promenade on Wednesday afternoon, expecting to see work had started on the repairs to the sea wall.  Well, that was an ill-founded expectation because the sheet piling remains stacked above the promenade.  The digger (or whatever you call it) remains on the flat area, adjacent to the beach huts which has been here for months and months.  To sum up, in just a few words; no repairs have started.

I was lost for words when we spotted two porta loos positioned right up against the last beach hut – see photo below.  In previous years, we’ve seen them installed on the promenade and because they weren’t secured by chains using the fixings on the wall, lying prostrate on the promenade following a high spring tide.  Sense prevailed when they were installed at the back, under the cliff.  This year, whoever decided to put them next to a beach hut must be ‘short of a shilling’ and are most definitely showing no consideration for the owner of the beach hut.

I put my photo up on Facebook and there have been some excellent suggestions for a name for the beach hut.  These range from, Not Far to Go, Toulouse, Beam Me Up Potty, The House At Poo Corner, Wee Retreat etc.  In addition, there’s been some amusing comments such as, ‘I love a beach hut with ensuite’, ‘Bog Standard Huts’, ‘Beach Huts To-Let’, ‘Darn you SatNav, I said Toulouse’, ‘Dunny Roaming’, ‘I do hope that those beach huts are being offered a discounted rent because they’re certainly getting a bog-standard s*** deal!’ It was good to see so many laughter emojis against the comments.  After seeing so many name suggestions, maybe I should have set up a competition for the best name for the beach hut!
