Sunday’s weather was perfect for the village Yard Sale.  People passed by carrying their purchases and the whole day looked to be, relaxed and successful for everyone. In the morning I visited an open garden with plants for sale.  I purchased two for a new project; what can best be described as a mini gravel garden.  In the afternoon we stopped off at another open garden.  Here, there were a number of lavenders which had attracted humming bird hawkmoths.  I was quite envious as I’ve never seen them on our lavender bushes.

Walking along the field edges, we’ve observed good numbers of butterflies.  The ringlets and meadow browns have been out in force.  Although, not particularly colourful, they are still a pleasure to watch as they flutter through the vegetation.  Added to the butterflies are the grass hoppers, chirruping in the long grasses and of course, there is bird song to be enjoyed too.  I am pleased to see the sainfoin (see photo below), with its spikes of pink flowers, again this year.  On a woodland path, I was totally taken aback by the biggest fungi I’ve ever seen.  Looking further, there were several growing from a dead tree.  I haven’t any idea what it is but they’re most definitely impressive.

We’ve both been enjoying the warm weather (termed as a heatwave by weather forecasters) and being outdoors, as much as we can.  Tomorrow will be a little different for me when I’ll be spending time inside, cleaning carpets and upholstery.  Fingers crossed, with windows and doors open, all will dry quickly.  This will be followed, in the evening, by a BBQ and if the temperatures hold, dinner in the garden.
