We hear a lot about what appears to be crazy theories as well as plans. Some of these have no solid background and can just be somebody’s thoughts or their wish to set off an unfounded rumour. We are always wary of what we read and hear. One of the more recent plans we have read about covers what has been termed as sun dimming. This is a way of blocking the sun’s rays and therefore, keeping the temperatures, on the surface of the earth, down. Sounds stupid? Yes of course it does. Who would take such a ridiculous action and of course how on earth would they stop the sun’s rays from reaching the earth? This most definitely has to be a load of tosh – or is it?
Before I go any further, here are links to two newspaper articles covering sun dimming, which I will refer to. One is in The Guardian and the other in The Telegraph. A search under ‘sun dimming’ will bring up more details and articles from the BBC, The Independent etc. There is also an online petition, calling for the Government to ‘Make all forms of ‘geo-engineering’ affecting the environment illegal.’
The newspaper articles explain how sun dimming will be achieved by the Government, in their £50+m experiment. What they don’t seem to have considered is their target to provide energy through renewables and not from fossil fuels. One of the renewables is solar power. If you dim the sun then this will result in less power being generated from the solar panels. A simple consideration that has obviously passed them by. Sun dimming will also result in less sunlight reaching crops of all types, which will reduce yields and food supplies which is another consideration, obviously passed by or ignored by the Government. Thinking back to before the Clean Air Act came into effect, in London, children suffered from rickets because the atmosphere restricted the sun’s rays and therefore the amount of natural Vitamin D they could absorb when outdoors. Does our current Government care about the next generation, obviously not.
This Government’s plan has to be one of most badly thought through experiments, ever. This is why the online petition, referred to above, has been set up. But have the experiments already started, in this part of the UK? I have asked myself as to why, when a day has started with beautiful blue skies and following the sound of planes jet engines, it’s clouded over, only for early evening for the blue skies to return. Not just once, or twice but fairly often, this has happened, over the past couple of months. This is something Peter noticed and brought to my attention, before the articles were published in the press. Is this the reason why, over the past week, the bulk of the country has basked in warmth and blue skies, whereas here on the east coast it’s been cloudy and cold? Take this morning for example, just after six, we walked along the beach enjoying the peace and the blue skies. Later after breakfast, jets went over and guess what, clouds then covered us, and the temperatures dropped. Now, early evening, the blue skies are back. Make of this what you like and whether you think our observations are related to the experiment or a bonkers theory, it has to be said – NO GOVERNMENT should be sun dimming and messing with our atmosphere and the weather.
Today’s photo is the view with a few wispy clouds in the sky, which greeted us this morning as we walked down towards the beach. Finally, I am taking a break from my blogs so as to enjoy a visit from our family, over the Bank Holiday weekend. I’ll be back next week.
