Friday 6th November 2026 - All Village Related

Today’s blog is devoted to matters etc. in the village, starting with the interactive information board on the car park, which I mentioned in my blog for 29th October. We both expressed our concerns, to NNDC, regarding the excessive light as well as the noise emitted from the unit. This morning, Peter received a phone call from NNDC. He was able to re-affirm his concerns, leaving it with their representative to investigate further and report back. This afternoon we saw the Chairman of the Parish Council, who assured us, the concerns are being looked into by two District Councillors. The way he spoke, indicated there should be a positive resolution. Fingers crossed on this one.
We also saw the Chairman of the Sports Club who told us initial work, to construct a new extension for the toilets, at the rear of the Pavilion, should soon be going ahead. The current facilities are definitely in need of refurbishing. Fund raising has been underway to facilitate the work, plus grants have been applied for.
Good to see some civic pride in the village this week, when four residents were planting an assortment of plants into the soil above the retaining wall which borders on the High Street side of the Sports Field. With the soil moist, from recent rains, the plants should settle well into the ground and provide colour next year.
This year we haven’t heard any bangs from fireworks let off in the village or immediate surrounding area on or prior to 5th November. This has to be welcomed from those who have pets that freak out at the sound of loud bangs, (that includes our cat Sid who is, anything but happy with loud noises) along with local wildlife and those who suffer from PTSD. This will change tomorrow when the Parish Council’s firework display is set to go ahead on the car park. The funding of the display is sourced from the amount raised from the 2025 bucket collection (£984.09). Added to this is money paid by villagers (whether we like it or not) through the precept, levied in the Council Tax. Expenditure of up to £2500 was approved by Parish Councillors and recorded in the minutes of their July Council Meeting.
The zigzag path, leading down the beach, is not accessible this weekend. This is due to the contractor’s equipment blocking the top with a long pipe leading down, at least as far as the turn. We are guessing these will facilitate pumping cement, into the void under the ramp used by Andy to take his boat, Jayne Marie, onto the beach prior to launching. The photo below shows the contractor’s equipment and the pipe.
