Sunday 10th May 2026 - Uncertainty, Still Fluctuating, Stolen and Pockets of Mist

Going back to the Bank Holiday weekend, the village was noticeably quiet, with vacant holiday lets and nowhere near as many cars in the car park, compared to other years, plus very few people were on the beach.  Could this reduction in visitors be down to the scare regarding potential fuel shortages and/or due to the lack of confidence in the country’s economy, with people preferring to keep their money in their pockets?  We are certainly living in a time of uncertainty.

The weather continues to fluctuate, remaining a mixed bag.  As an example, both Friday and Saturday, the latter has to be the best so far this spring, were bright and warm.  Despite doubting if I would be casting a clout before the end of the month, both days I wore a t-shirt and summer weight fleece.  All change today; it’s cloudy and the easterly wind has returned - I’m back wearing a winter jumper.  We made the most of the good weather finding plenty to do in the garden, Peter BBQ’d on Saturday evening and for the first time this year, we enjoyed our afternoon tea and cake using our new garden chairs and table.  I’ll keep this as concise as possible - the only downside was; after putting out plants for sale I discovered someone had taken payment for two plants out of the honesty box.  As it is possibly the second time (see my blog for 8th April) this has happened, I’m going to have to find a honesty box with a more secure lid.  In the meantime, if you are selling items from your drive etc. in the village - look out, look out, there’s a thief about!

Today’s photo was taken on Friday morning.  We walked up Madams Lane and then across the field, here I saw a first for this time of the year; pockets of mist rising from the dew laden grass.
