We went out yesterday morning, in the rain, for our usual weekly shop in Mundesley, after which we drove to Sheringham where I made an Opticians appointment.  Back home, we basically stayed indoors for the rest of the day, listening to the rain and building wind.  The change in weather brought me to the decision, the time had come for light weight summer clothes to be exchanged in the wardrobe and chest of drawers for warmer ones.

It's been blustery this morning, but dry.  However, this afternoon has given way to rain.  I’m hoping this wind and rain, termed as Storm Amy, will soon abate.  Peter picked up windfall apples this morning, adding them to other windfalls on the garden table.  Later, I sectioned them into two baskets, one for those with little or no sign of damage and the other for the fruits that are bruised or marked.  These will not keep and need to be trimmed and eaten fairly soon.  It’s been a good year for apples but unfortunately, despite hanging pheromone traps in our russet, most of the fruits have suffered from codling moth damage.

Today, I’ve started preparing for the Poppy Appeal, contacting those who usually have wreaths or display trays of boxes with collecting tins.  The school packs arrived last Friday and my main order will be delivered on Monday.  The schools will be able to start collecting before half-term with the main appeal commencing on Thursday 23rd October.

We have a new topper on the post box, outside the village stores.  Tina has provided seasonal/topical toppers for a while now but took a break earlier this year.  I say ‘a break’ but in fact she’s been busy knitting vegetables for a new topper with a Harvest Festival theme.  Tina has incorporated a variety of vegetables (and a tomato which is technically a fruit!) into her new creation, which you can see in the photo below.
