I can safely say, November is my least favourite month of the year. I associate this month with dampness and the start of cold weather. However, up until Friday it really has not lived up to what I expected. This year, November has generally been mild and despite a few glitches, not bad at all. All change on Friday; it was awful, a day of rain and totally miserable. It’s been pretty grim since then – what I expect in November – and it will probably carry on like this.
I have now finished my ‘plog’ for my recipe for Pork with Celery and published it on YouTube. I have put up a link on my Janet’s Videos page. It’s not entirely about my recipe; it also includes a selection of my photos taken in and around Overstrand during the months of autumn and winter. If you have no interest in cooking you may still like to take a look at the local photos. I’ve no immediate plans for any more plogs or vlogs but hopefully, I will be filming the Boxing Day Swim and posting this on YouTube.
Today, four of us counted the donations, made to this year’s Poppy Appeal, before paying-in at the village Post Office. I’ve been told there is another donation to come, so I don’t currently have a final figure to share with you. I can say it will be in excess of £1100 which, considering the paper poppies have not proven popular, I am very pleased with the result.
Today’s photo is of the ‘giant Lego’, concrete blocks which have now been placed on the sea wall. As far as we could see, from the promenade and the beach, these have been backed with wood, shingle and plastic sheeting. There were still some blocks on the promenade. Maybe these will be located during the course of this week.

Finally, I’ve been asked by Trudi Connaughton to include the following message in both my blog and on Overstrand Life’s Facebook page. Although I never met Ann or her husband, John, I would like to send my condolences to Trudi and family at this sad time.
.
For those of you that are unaware, Ann Connaughton, our Mum and beloved wife of John /Dad passed away peacefully on 28th October 2025. Our parents lived in Overstrand from 1976 for over 35 years and were an integral part of village life, it was their happy place.
