I’m most definitely not liking this weather but it’s winter – should I expect anything different?  The short answer to that is, no. Cold winds, snow and ice are to be expected and I just need to get on with it.  Fortunately, we don’t have to be anywhere for appointments and the like, so we can please ourselves as to when or if we go out.  The road outside our home, on Wednesday morning, was like a sheet of ice but I wanted to go and feed feral cat Lunar.  We both tried putting our ice breakers on our walking shoes but with the rubber so cold and not pliable, we failed to secure them.  In the end, I put Peter’s larger pair on my shoes and still taking care, walked to Lunar’s usual feeding place where she was most pleased to see me.

I have been cracking on with items on my winter ‘to do’ list which has mostly involved me working on my laptop.  A move away from this tomorrow, when I’ve set aside the morning for cleaning the ovens and then the cooker hood.  Thank goodness for oven cleaners, which make oven cleaning easy.  I can remember sitting outside with the oven shelves and a Brillo pad, to avoid splatters going up the kitchen window and walls.  Now, I can just pop the shelves overnight in a bag with liquid cleaner and in the morning just rinse them off.  I understand, electric cookers have a self-cleaning facility but I’ve not been tempted to move away from cooking with gas.

Yesterday afternoon, we took a walk along the promenade.  The top row of concrete ‘Lego’ blocks installed on the promenade looked to be leaning outwards.  Was this an optical effect?  We don’t think so; we are not the only ones to have made this observation.  The recent high tides, coupled with strong winds have floated some of the beach huts, resulting in them moving off their bases, (see photos) whilst wood from steps etc., in front of the huts, have been relocated.  Yes, this is definitely winter but, to brighten our days, the flowers on clumps of snowdrops are starting to break open.
