Friday 21st February 2025 - No Heating, Time for a Mow and Drawing

Writer: Overstrand LifeOverstrand Life

Today is the first I can remember for many weeks, when we haven’t needed to have the heating on throughout the day.  Since Tuesday we have seen the temperatures increase from 3°C to 7°C on Wednesday, when I cleaned the greenhouse inside and out. Yesterday it was 13°C and this afternoon, 15°C.  What a change; it would have been even warmer, if the sun had shone.  I remember, before we moved to Overstrand, coming for a weekend break and recording similar temperatures in the visitors’ book, so it’s not that unusual for it to be this warm in February.

This morning, I was able to get two loads of washing on the line which was dry by the early afternoon, when Peter gave our lawns their first mow of the year.  There is a lot of moss at the front but we are leaving this.  In the past Peter has scarified to remove the moss and I have treated the lawn with a branded moss killer.  However, over the winter, it always comes back before most of it dies back in the summer, so we are just going to let it do whatever it wants and not waste our time and money.

I am progressing, with teaching myself to draw.  I have borrowed books from the mobile library and also purchased a couple.  These have been a help with regard to achieving the right shapes and shading.  Although, some of the example step-by-step guides are in graphite (black lead) pencils, I have used colours for my last two drawings.  It didn’t seem right to draw daffodil and tulip blooms in black and white.

Today’s photo is of cuttlefish bones, which I mentioned in my last blog.  A lot of them have broken but there are some which remain complete.
