Wednesday 31st July 2024 - In the Making, Village Fair, Litter Matters and Old Man's Beard

Writer: Overstrand LifeOverstrand Life

I have a new vlog in the making covering the Sports Field, one of the village’s primary assets.  My vlog is currently in the final editing stages before I download and Peter views for major bloopers, which may send it back to the editing package for changes.  Filmed last week, it was put on the back burner, in favour of being outside for walks and in the garden but I should be putting a link to it on YouTube in my next blog.

Overstrand Together’s fair, on Sunday, was very popular with villagers and visitors from around the area enjoying a variety of games, stalls, refreshments and entertainment.  The weather was perfect, not a single drop of rain to dampen the fun.  I don’t take or publish photos etc. that include children, something I managed to get around in my Sports Field vlog, and therefore didn’t take any shots as we walked round the fair - it would have been difficult not to include youngsters.  I’m not a fan of cars but I did enjoy seeing vintage vehicles, so much more character than today’s ugly lumps of metal.

I have reported, once again, bins in the village which haven’t been emptied. The three on the car park, filled up over the weekend, with rubbish spilling out and bags at the side.  With the rubbish bin near the picnic area full, it was easy to see the recycling bin was being used for general litter.  No collection on Monday or Tuesday, so this morning I completed NNDC’s form on their website.  If NNDC want to encourage tourism, which they do, they need to provide a full service to the area.  Maybe they should use some of the money collected from car parks to ensure all bins, during high season, are emptied once a day and twice in popular areas.  If you see a neglected bin, you can report this direct to the District Council, using this link. We are not the only ones who are irritated by rubbish, whether it’s bin related or dropped in the village, or along the beach or in the countryside.  Villager, Maggie Wilcox, has put up a video on YouTube where she urges people to take their crap (her words not mine) home – here’s the link to YouTube.

Today’s photo is of a wild clematis in bloom, more commonly known as old man’s beard, which blooms profusely in various areas in the village.
