Wednesday 23rd September 2026 - Taste of Overstrand, Wilting and Contractors
‘A Taste of Overstrand’ was held on the sports field, on Saturday. We went along in the early afternoon and were impressed. There was a varied selection of foods, wine, beer, moisturisers and street food etc., along with games and what was termed as, a silent auction. It was good to see, St Martins Church had a stall too, selling raffle tickets to raise funds for the restoration of the church tower. There was a relaxed atmosphere but if the organisers make this an annual event (I hope they do), I would suggest they reduce the sound level of the music. Great to have music, adding to the ambience, but it would have benefitted from not being quite so loud. It most certainly restricted conversation, unless you were well away from the speakers.
We’ve definitely had some lovely early autumn weather, with a couple of windy days. Yesterday, by late morning, the temperature topped over 20°C and with little or no breeze, it felt very warm in the sun. No need for a fleece or similar when we went out for a walk in the afternoon, only short sleeved tops. We’ve had rain, but not enough for some of our flowers and vegetables. Come the afternoons, these have been wilting, needing to be watered, to revive them.
Yesterday morning, we walked along the promenade where I took a selection of photos of the contractor’s equipment etc. For the benefit of those who are unable to access the promenade, I have included the photos below. I’m not sure whether I will be able to take more, when work starts and progresses, as access to the promenade has now been fenced off.
