Earlier in the week, we enjoyed some beautiful spring days that was until yesterday when a sea fret rolled in mid-morning, blanketing us in grey.  When I took the washing in, during the afternoon, it was just as damp as when I hung it out first thing!  No fret today but definitely grey and cold too.

Going back to when it was sunny and bright; on Thursday morning, we took a walk across the fields.  We listened to bird song, saw a couple of muntjac deer, noted the blossom is out on blackthorns and a cherry plum tree while appreciating the natural sounds that accompany early mornings.  What a great start to the day.  After breakfast, while Peter tended his vegetable plot and planted potatoes in sacks, I gave the shed its annual clean.  I found a peacock butterfly which has been hibernating behind some bags.  Once these were moved, so did the butterfly, resting for a short period in the doorway before flying off into the garden.  Removing pots from a shelf, revealed a queen wasp and not wanting her to build a nest within the shed, I carefully relocated her to a sunny spot at the back of the garden.

The frogs have been very active in the pond, croaking and pairing.  They dip down under the water if they see us but yesterday, I spotted one on the surface.  At first, I thought it was dead; it looked very skinny.  I was about to get a net to remove the frog when it moved and behind was a mass of spawn, just under the surface of the water.  I realised then, this was a female and having offloaded her eggs this was why she looked so skinny.

Today’s photo is of one of the many naturalised clumps of daffodils to be seen growing wild.
