Saturday 30th November 2024 - Variable, Dumped and Definite Plus

The weather has been a bit variable this week, with rain, frosts, clouds and sun.  Wednesday was decidedly wet so, instead of going out for a walk, I retrieved our Christmas boxes from the roof space to where they are easily accessible and updated our Christmas card list.  I have also given some thought about food over the holiday period and what to buy as gifts for our grandsons, one of which has his birthday just before Christmas.  I’m not making any comments about ‘bad timing’ as our eldest son was born just after Christmas!  On Thursday morning, I went to the Coffee Morning at the Pavilion, here there will be a raffle and tombola just before Christmas which will raise money for charity/ies.  Mmm…… I seem to be mentioning a lot about Christmas, time now to change the subject.

Not sure how long it's been there, but passing round the back of the public toilets on Pauls Lane car park this morning, I spotted a dumped TV along with a remote control, resting on a box.  This month, NNDC introduced a booking system at their recycling centres, so I presumed there were no slots available and the TV owner decided to just leave it, on the assumption it would be collected when the general bins were next emptied.  Since then, I have looked at NNDC’s website to see if it is possible to book a slot at the Sheringham recycling centre for tomorrow.  There were plenty of spaces and this was the same throughout the coming week.  Having to book must be a pain, if you don’t use the internet.  It was far more convenient previously when you could drive to a centre, even if you had to queue for a while, to dispose of rubbish.  However, this is no excuse for dumping unwanted items here or, come to that, any other place.

Our walk this afternoon was such a pleasure, hearing long tailed tits chatting as they fluttered from branch to branch high up in a tree, blackbirds were in the bushes and a buzzard called in the background.  It was peaceful and warm too; I didn’t need my gloves.  Apart from those working their allotments we didn’t see a single soul from when we left the tarmac to rejoining it.  A definite plus to living here in Overstrand, away from the general hubbub.
